Moving from YachtScoring

How YachtScoring's screens map to Saildex Regattas, and what to check before your first event.

Most of what a YachtScoring event administrator does has a direct counterpart here. The names differ in places. This guide maps one to the other and lists what to check before you run your first event.

Past results come with you

Saildex already archives public YachtScoring results, so your club's past events are probably in the results archive and your sailors' records are already in the sailor index. Once their final results are published, the events you host here join the same archive and records.

Before your first event

  • Ratings. Enter each boat's rating for the system its class is scored under, or import its ORC certificate, and review it before racing. A boat entered in classes under different systems keeps a rating for each.
  • Scoring options. Check discards, the A5.3 option, and how ties are broken against your NoR. The defaults follow Appendix A of the RRS.
  • Codes. YachtScoring's STP is not an RRS code; a class can enable it as a custom code with the points your SI sets. TLE is supported as the SI Guide's finishing-window option. See scoring codes.
  • Run a dry scoring pass. Enter last season's finishes for one class and compare the standings with the published ones. Differences usually come from a scoring option, not from the arithmetic.

Saildex does not import a YachtScoring event's entries or finishes into a hosted event. Export the entry list from YachtScoring as CSV and import it into the race office instead.

What is different

  • There are no fees and no payment screens. Entry is free for the organizer and for competitors.
  • Every club and event is reviewed by a person before it is public.
  • Protests, redress requests and scoring inquiries are filed online and recorded with the hearing and decision, and decisions feed the scoring.
  • Scoring covers the formats YachtScoring does not: high point, bonus point, medal races, qualifying and final series, and Appendices B to F.
