The notice board and amendments

Run an official online notice board: what to post, how amendments are numbered, and what competitors see.

Every event has an online notice board on its public page. When your sailing instructions name it as the official notice board, a notice posted there has the same standing as one pinned to a board ashore, so it needs the same care.

The board is the Notices tab of the public event page, and the event's overview lists the latest posts. You post from the Notice board tab in the race office, choosing a category for each post: notice to competitors, amendment, race committee announcement, schedule change, protest or hearing notice, or news.

What to post

  • Amendments to the notice of race and sailing instructions. Publishing an amendment from the Documents tab posts it here for you.
  • Notices to competitors: course changes, schedule changes, a moved harbour start.
  • Notices of a race committee or protest committee intention to protest.

Hearing schedules and published decisions appear on the board automatically, next to the numbered notices, as soon as the protest committee schedules or publishes them. The rule 42 list is on the event's Protests tab.

Race news (the day's results summary, a weather update) can go on the board too, marked as news rather than as an official notice.

Timestamps

Every post records when it was published, and the board shows that time in the event's time zone. Time limits run from those times. A notice posted at 1712 changing the next day's first warning signal is valid from 1712, so post changes inside the times your sailing instructions set for them.

Amendments

An amendment changes a published NoR or SI. Each one is numbered in order (Amendment 1, Amendment 2), dated, and names the paragraphs it changes. The document's page lists its amendments, so a competitor who printed the SIs on Thursday can see exactly what changed on Friday.

A post cannot be deleted. Edit it, and the board keeps the earlier text with the time it was replaced, or retract it with a reason that stays on the board. Either way the record shows what competitors saw and when.

Telling competitors

Posting to the board does not message anyone unless you ask it to. Tick Email entrants when you post, and the notice goes by email to every entry with an address, with a link back to the board. For anything else, use the event's Communications tab.
