Saildex Regattas
Questions
For organizers
Does it really cost nothing?
Yes. There are no fees for clubs or competitors, no paid tier, and no payment screens. Hosting is how Saildex keeps its record of sailboat racing complete.
Can we collect entry fees through it?
No. Saildex takes no payments of any kind. Collect fees the way your club already does, and use the registration questions to record who has paid if you need to.
Who can host an event?
Anyone signed in who names the club or organization running it: a yacht club, a class association, a school team, a sailing centre. A reviewer confirms the club is real before anything is public.
How long does review take?
Reviews are done by hand. We will email you when your review is complete. You can set up, enter boats and score races while you wait; results go public on approval.
Do edits after approval need another review?
Most do not: entries, documents, notices, races and results are published as you make them. Changing the event’s name, description, website, club or contact email, or the club’s own details, sends it back for review, and it is hidden until a reviewer approves the change. A reviewer can also suspend an event that turns out to break the terms.
Which handicap systems can we score?
PHRF (time on time, time on distance, triple number and pursuit), ORC (single number, triple number, performance curve and constructed course), ORR and ORR-EZ, IRC, HPR, CSA, Portsmouth and D-PN, NHC, the catamaran systems (SCHRS, Texel, MOCRA) and a formula of your own, plus one design. Each class has its own system, chosen in the class scoring settings.
Can we run a medal race or a qualifying and final series?
Yes, along with high point and bonus point scoring and the discipline appendices: B for windsurfing, C for match racing, D for team racing, E for radio sailing and F for kiteboarding.
Do we have to use the NoR and SI generator?
No. You can upload your own PDF. The generator saves time because it fills in what you have already set up: the dates, venue, classes, schedule and notice board.
Does it work on the committee boat?
Finish entry is designed for a phone or tablet: enter a sail number and the time is taken to the second. You can also enter finishes from paper afterwards, or paste them in bulk.
Can we move from YachtScoring mid-season?
Yes. Your past YachtScoring results are probably already in the Saildex archive. Set up the next event here and run it alongside; the migration guide maps one system’s screens to the other.
Who owns our results?
The results are the record of your event, and your club remains the organizing authority with the final say on them. Saildex publishes them on the event page and in sailors’ records, and offers them back to you as CSV and through the event data feed.
For competitors
Do I need an account to enter?
Yes, to enter a boat or file a hearing request. Signing in only needs your email address; Saildex sends a link and there is no password.
Who can see my email address?
Only the event roles that need it, such as the registrar and the principal race officer, and the club’s admins. It is never on a public page, in a public export or in the data feed.
How do I protest another boat?
If the event allows online filing, from the event page. Inform the other boat as rule 60.2 requires, then file within the time limit in the sailing instructions.
My score looks wrong. What should I do?
File a scoring inquiry from the event page. It goes to the scorer, and is the fastest route for a missed finish or a typo. If the scorer cannot fix it and you believe your score was made worse through no fault of your own, request redress.
Will this event appear on my Saildex profile?
Yes. When the final results are published, the event joins the Saildex results archive, and each sailor named on the entry or crew list is credited with it.
