A support person agrees to the rules by providing support, and competitors are responsible for making sure their support people know them (rule 4). Support persons cannot be protested; instead, anyone can report them to the protest committee, which decides whether to call a hearing.
At a hearing the committee may warn the person, exclude them from the event or venue, remove privileges, or take other action within its powers. It may also penalize a boat that is a party, by changing her score in one race up to disqualification, if the boat may have gained a competitive advantage from the breach, or the person broke a rule again after the boat had been warned in writing that a penalty could follow.
