Appendix F Kiteboarding Racing Rules

Kiteboarding course racing: kite-specific definitions, tangles, jumping and capsizes.

The kiteboarding appendix redefines most positional terms for boards with kites: overlap ignores the kite, the zone and continuing obstructions are measured in metres (30 m), a kiteboard is capsized when her kite is in the water or her lines are tangled with another's, and new terms cover jumping and recovering.

Key points

F2 Part 2 changes

A tangle counts with injury and serious damage as grounds for penalizing a boat not racing. A kiteboard keeping clear must also leave room for the right-of-way kiteboard to move her kite. Jumping and recovering boards have specific obligations.

F8 Scoring

The notice of race states how overall scores combine across formats. In elimination heats a non-finisher scores the number of kiteboards in that heat. A10 gains DCT: disqualified after causing a tangle.
