RRS 2025–2028 · Part 7

90 Race Committee; Sailing Instructions; Scoring

The race committee runs the races, publishes written sailing instructions, scores under Appendix A unless told otherwise, and corrects its own scoring errors.

The race committee conducts races as the organizing authority directs and the rules require.

90.1 Race Committee

Runs the racing.

90.2 Sailing Instructions

Written sailing instructions conforming to rule J2, including national prescriptions in English when foreign entries are expected. Changes must be in writing on the official notice board before the stated time, or communicated to each boat on the water before her warning signal. Oral changes are allowed only on the water and only if the sailing instructions provide for them.

90.3 Scoring

Score under Appendix A unless the notice of race or sailing instructions specify otherwise. A race is scored if it was not abandoned and one boat sailed the course within the time limit, even if that boat later retired or was disqualified. A DNE is never discarded. The committee corrects its own scoring errors when it finds them and carries out scoring changes ordered by the protest committee or national authority. If the notice of race says so, scores freeze 24 hours (or another stated time) after the later of the last protest time limit, the last protest decision, or publication of results, except for changes under rules 6, 69 or 71.

Changed in 2025

Appendix J now lists the optional score freeze in 90.3(e) among the things a notice of race must state when it is used, and a race is scored when one boat sails the course (rather than finishes) within the time limit.
