50 Competitor Clothing and Equipment

No clothing or equipment worn to add weight; weight limits on competitor gear; crew harnesses must float and release easily.

You may not wear or carry anything for the purpose of increasing your weight. On boats without lifelines, a competitor's clothing and equipment may weigh no more than 8 kg wet, excluding a crew harness and anything worn only below the knee; class rules or the notice of race may set a lower limit or a higher one up to 10 kg. A crew harness must float in fresh water, weigh no more than 2 kg (classes may allow up to 4 kg), and let the wearer disconnect easily at any time. Weighing follows Appendix H.

Changed in 2025

Crew harnesses are now defined by the Equipment Rules of Sailing, must have positive buoyancy and must release easily at any time.
