RRS 2025–2028 · Part 4, Section B

49 Crew Position; Lifelines

Only hiking straps and under-thigh stiffeners to position bodies outboard; torsos inside lifelines on boats that must have them.

No devices to get your body further outboard except hiking straps and stiffeners worn under the thighs. Where lifelines are required, torsos stay inside except briefly for a necessary task; on boats with upper and lower lifelines, a crew sitting facing out with the waist inside the lower line may lean out over the upper. Lifelines must be taut, and when class rules are silent their material and diameter follow the Offshore Special Regulations.
